New Jersey State Insurance Requirements & Recommendations
Business/Commercial
General liability is a must, and most New Jersey employers must carry workers’ compensation. Many businesses add property, cyber liability, and business interruption coverage.
Car
The law requires at least $15K/$30K for bodily injury and $5K for property damage. But minimum coverage barely covers the cost of one ER visit. Most families choose higher limits for real protection.
Condo
Your condo association’s master policy usually stops at the walls. This policy covers your unit’s interior and belongings.
Collectibles/Antiques
Homeowners policies may cap coverage (often around $1,000 to $2,500). Special coverage protects higher-value antiques.
Home
Flooding can be a concern among coastal and shore homes. Most standard homeowner policies don’t cover floods or earthquakes. We’ll help you figure out what matters most, even if it means separate flood insurance.
Life & Retirement Planning
Coverage isn’t required, but many New Jersey families choose at least 10 times their annual income to protect their loved ones. Retirement planning often includes 401(k)s, IRAs, and annuities.
Motorcycle
The law requires the same minimums as with car insurance – at least $15K/$30K for bodily injury and $5K for property damage. Many riders add collision and medical payments for extra protection.
Personal Umbrella
Popular in New Jersey’s higher-income suburban and shore areas, this adds $1M+ of extra liability over auto and home policies.
Pet
With many pet-friendly areas in New Jersey, this insurance gives pet owners peace of mind, as it covers vet bills in case of illness or injury.
Renters
Landlords usually only insure the building, not your stuff. They typically require renters insurance, which protects your belongings and provides liability.
RV
If your RV is motorized, you are required to have liability limits as you would a car – at least $15K/$30K for bodily injury and $5K for property damage. If it’s towable, then coverage can be added to your auto or home policy.
